Vranac Pro Corde is a red wine made from the indigenous Vranac grape variety (Latin Vitis vinifera vranac), which originates from southern Montenegro and northern Albania. The name pro corde means for the heart in Latin — the wine is produced by a special process that preserves high levels of natural polyphenols, in particular resveratrol, which is associated with cardiovascular health.
The grapes are grown in vineyards on red soil in the Podgorica basin, at altitudes between 50 and 200 metres. After hand-harvesting, the grapes are vinified using a traditional method with extended maceration to extract the variety characteristic deep-red pigments and intense tannins. The wine is then matured in oak barrels for 12 months, giving it structure and complexity.
In the glass it shows a deep ruby-red colour with violet reflections. The nose is dominated by aromas of blackberry, plum and forest fruits, with subtle notes of vanilla and spice. On the palate it is full-bodied, with firm tannins and a long, dry finish. Pairs ideally with roast meats, lamb and aged cheeses. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. Contains 13.5 percent alcohol by volume. Sale prohibited to persons under 18 years of age.
