Goran Bregovic is one of the most renowned Balkan composers and musicians, recognised by audiences worldwide above all through his film scores for director Emir Kusturica (Time of the Gypsies, Arizona Dream, Underground, Black Cat White Cat) and through his contemporary Balkan brass-orchestra music.
He began his career in 1974 as the founder and frontman of Bijelo Dugme, the most popular Yugoslav rock band of the 1970s and 1980s, which sold more than 8 million albums in the former Yugoslavia. After the breakup of the band, Bregovic turned to crossover music combining Balkan folk traditions, Romani brass-band music, classical arrangements and modern pop, becoming an internationally recognised composer.
This 2-CD set contains 36 of the most significant songs from his career. CD 1 covers hits from the Bijelo Dugme period (Lipe cvatu, Pljuni i zapjevaj moja Jugoslavijo, Tako ti je mala moja kad ljubi Bosanac), while CD 2 contains compositions from film scores and later solo work (Kalashnikov, In the Death Car, Ederlezi, Mesecina). An ideal souvenir for visitors who want to take the sound of the Balkans home.
