EU · SMART TOURISM ALIGNMENT

Smart Serbia Travel in the EU smart-tourism ecosystem

The platform is designed to plug directly into the EU's flagship tourism initiatives — Tourism Data Spaces, DEPLOYTOUR, the Smart Tourism Capital award, Horizon Europe and Interreg. Open data, machine-readable feeds and interoperability with EU standards make it a natural partner for co-funded projects.

EU initiatives we align with

Six parallel programmes through which the platform can plug into EU funding and partner networks.

DG GROW

Tourism Data Spaces

EU initiative for open exchange of tourism data between member states and candidates. Our platform already exposes REST/JSON feeds aligned with the expected Data Space schemas.

Our contribution: 7 public JSON endpoints, CC-BY-4.0

EU · 2024–2027

DEPLOYTOUR

EU programme for the deployment of smart-tourism solutions in candidate countries. Goal: pilot interoperable digital services replicable in other destinations.

Our contribution: pilot deployment at country scale

EU · ANNUAL AWARD

European Capital of Smart Tourism

Annual EU award for cities/destinations leading in 4 areas: digitalisation, sustainability, accessibility and cultural heritage. Novi Sad and Belgrade are potential applicants.

Our contribution: KPI evidence pack for applicants

DG CONNECT

Digital Tourism Initiative

EU framework for the digital transformation of tourism — from SMEs to national agencies. Focus on multilingual content, AR/VR, real-time data and AI tools.

Our contribution: 4 languages, AR modules, AI recommendations, multimodal map

INTERREG · IPA

Interreg IPA Western Balkans

Cross-border cooperation on cultural routes, gastronomy and natural heritage. Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia — shared destinations under one digital layer.

Our contribution: technical backbone for shared routes

HORIZON · CLUSTER 2

Horizon Europe — Heritage & Culture

Cluster 2: "Culture, Creativity & Inclusive Society" — research calls for heritage digitisation, audio guides, 3D reconstructions and UNESCO-site accessibility.

Our contribution: ready layer for UNESCO sites (Studenica, Sopoćani…)

Following the European Capital of Smart Tourism methodology: digital readiness, sustainability, accessibility and cultural heritage. Refreshed quarterly.

Digital readiness 82 / 100

Covers: 4 languages, REST API, mobile app, AR/VR, AI recommendations, real-time mapping.

Sustainability 71 / 100

Eco-Score module, low-CO₂ booking priority, off-season nudges, support for etno-villages and rural tourism.

Accessibility 68 / 100

WCAG 2.1 AA, audio guides, small-screen legibility, semantic structure. Roadmap: wheelchair labels and sensory maps.

Cultural heritage 89 / 100

Open data commitment

The platform exposes a public REST/JSON API with 7 endpoints (places, stays, tours, events, news, stats, regions). No API key, CC-BY-4.0 licence, ~12 fields per endpoint, machine-readable. Aligned with the EU Open Data Directive (2019/1024) and the HVD (High-Value Datasets) regulation.

Sustainability & CO₂ footprint

The platform's Eco-Score module tracks the carbon footprint of every booking and recommends lower-impact alternatives (rail over flights, etno-villages outside tourism hot-spots, off-season travel).

1,247 t
CO₂ saved this year through eco-friendly bookings

Methodology: difference between an average tourist arrival (flight + hotel + car) and patterns the platform promotes (rail/bus + rural stay + public transport). Refreshed monthly from booking data.

Multi-stakeholder framework

The platform is designed to connect government bodies, EU instruments, regional organisations and private operators into a single tourism offer.
